No Room for Cluck-Ups: KFC Trains Its Employees Using VR

In a report published yesterday by Eater, it was revealed that KFC restaurants have experimented with utilizing VR in teaching employees how to fry chicken.

Used in tandem with an Oculus Rift, the KFC training game is akin to that of an escape room experience, where the user must complete the task at hand within a certain amount of time.

Colonel Sanders guides the employee with his raspy voice, instructing them on how to prepare fried chicken the way a seasoned chef would. It’s OK to crack under pressure though, as VR training offers an environment which is less distracting and welcoming for new hires.

“The game is intended to supplement the existing Chicken Mastery program, not replace it…This is intended to be a fun way to celebrate the work KFC’s more than 19,000 cooks do every day in every restaurant across the U.S. in an engaging way,” explains a KFC spokesperson.

Although the VR game won’t replace physical hands-on experience, it’s an eggscellent way to incorporate new platforms on which employees can hone their chicken prepping skills.
